JC JoyAge Professional Workshop – Meaningful Living at Any Age: An Introductory Workshop to using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in the Elderly

November 25, 2021
JcJoyAge

Many elderly face changes and losses in their lives that are beyond their control and not easily rationalized away. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/Training (ACT) can be an empowering intervention that may be particularly effective in working with the elderly population. ACT is an evidence-based and mindfulness-based psychotherapy that is effective for a wide range of non-clinical applications, such as prevention and health promotion, and clinical conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and chronic pain. The aim of this workshop is to explore the application of ACT in the elderly population to increase their mental wellbeing. This workshop will provide an introduction to the conceptual understanding of ACT processes. Clinical applications will be discussed, exploring the use of ACT skills to work with the elderly to increase their resilience, empower them to negotiate life stage challenges, and help them savor their golden years with vitality and joy.
