(Vivian)
(KK & Winnie)

About the Speaker:
?Session One: Adoption as an Alternative Path
Ms. Vivian Ip
Vivian’s background spans between Hong Kong and Canada. During her teenage years, she volunteered for a non-profit organization that caters to pregnant girls in crisis pregnancies and children in need of temporary or permanent care. She grew her career within this organization, starting as an adoption social worker and then promoted to supervisor. For the last 23 years, her focus has been on adoption services, where she has supported adoptive families through difficult times and assisted adoptees and their families in tracing their roots. Vivian’s expertise lies in matters concerning children, adoption, parenting, root-tracing, bonding, and attachment, and she is passionate about providing sensitive, moral, and essential information to nurture children and families. Together with her work partners, they seize every opportunity to offer time and research to provide necessary life and family education, including sex education, to children, parents, and professionals across Hong Kong and China.
KK & Winnie Lam
KK and Winnie have been happily married for 15 years.? During the first 8 years of their marriage, they faced the painful hardship of infertility.? Having thoroughly considered other family formation alternatives, they decided to build their family through adoption.? In 2015, they spent months working on the multiple-page adoption application; were assessed by social workers of the Social Welfare Department and were finally matched to their son when he was 2 months old.? To their surprise, Winnie conceived 3 years after their son arrived home.? They are now a blended family – a family through adoption and birth.? As a way to share love and gratitude with the adoption community, Winnie began to volunteer as the Chairlady of Happy Parents’ Association two years ago and has been walking alongside many adoptive families since.
