This workshop is coordinated by Prof. Cheryl Chui (HKU) and Prof. Neil Lunt (University of York), with Prof. Yvonne Birks (University of York) as the key facilitator. This workshop will showcase the infrastructure supporting research capacity building, solutions from the programme supporting people living with dementia and offer opportunities to interact with tools; as well as a chance to discuss applications and how these tools are impacting the lives of people living with dementia and the workforce and ways these may be adapted. About Professor Yvonne Birks
Based at the University of York, Yvonne is Professor of Applied Health and Social Care Research in the School of Business and Society. She leads the OSCaR: (Older Adults’ Social Care Research) Group. Her research focuses on the social care needs of older people, dementia and the workforce who provide support.
Professor Birks is a mixed methods researcher with a professional background in nursing, who has worked in applied health and social care research for over 25 years. She has worked on service evaluation, trials, outcome measurement development and co-production approaches within older populations. Her portfolio of work largely concentrates on social care for older people, with a specific interest in self-funders who are not eligible for state support.
She supports social care agendas nationally and regionally and research and is part of the Partnership for Responsive Policy Analysis and Research (PREPARE), A dementia and degenerative diseases NIHR Policy Research Unit (https://denpru-qmul.nihr.ac.uk) , and the York NIHR Evidence Synthesis Unit and the Yorkshire and Humber Research Support Service.
Yvonne is the national Director of the NIHR School for Social Care Research and represents the NIHR research schools on the NIHR Strategy and Engagement Board. She is also an NIHR Senior Investigator, an award made to recognise the most prominent and prestigious researchers of applied health and social care. Senior Investigators help shape the direction of health, and social care and public health research in the UK.
