A new law on mandatory reporting of suspected child abuses will likely be enacted in Hong Kong next year. While this is a significant step forward in child protection, it will require meticulous collaboration among multiple parties to ensure the effective enforcement of the new law – ultimately to the best benefits of children at risk.
In the US similar laws have been enacted since the 1970’s. Professors Monit Cheung and Patrick Leung of University of Houston will introduce the US’s mandatory child protection reporting system, and effective social work practice with families and children. The implications to management will also be deliberated, especially on the factors contributing to the job satisfaction among child protective services workers.
Speakers
Professor Monit Cheung, PhD, LCSW, Mary R. Lewis Endowed Professor of Children & Youth
Professor Patrick Leung, PhD, Graduate College of Social Work, University of Houston
