香港社會工作者註冊局(以後簡稱「註冊局」)為法定機構,相關法例於1997年在立法會通過,次年1月成立。相對於其他專業,例如臨床心理學家、物理治療師等,社工在獲得法例層面認可走得很前,可見當時香港社會對社工有很大的信任和期望。
