Prof. Eddie S. K. CHONG

Assistant Professor
Biography

Prof. Eddie Chong is a counselling psychologist whose work draws on community psychology and Buddhist psychology to advance compassion science and promote well-being among diverse populations. His research focuses on diversity-related issues in the lived experiences of minoritized communities, helping processes, and counselling education.

Integrating methodologies that range from intensive longitudinal designs to community-based action research, his scholarship centres on three interconnected areas: (a) resilience among minoritized groups and the sociocultural determinants of well-being; (b) psychosocial processes that foster compassionate mindstates; and (c) culturally responsive therapeutic interventions and affirmative practices in everyday interactions. Through this programme of research, he seeks to raise mental health awareness in underserved communities and to foster multicultural competence among mental health professionals. He serves as an Associate Editor of Mindfulness and as an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Counseling Psychology.

As Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Counselling), he collaborates with colleagues and students to enrich learning experiences, emphasizing curricular integration of compassion and multicultural orientation.
