Organised by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Faculty of Social Sciences Research Hub of Population Studies (“Hub”), the press conference unveiling the first Hong Kong General Social Survey (HKGSS) was held on January 28, 2026 (Wednesday). Administered by the Hub, HKGSS, as a large-scale, society survey, aims to build a representative, continuous, and internationally comparable evidence base for studying Hong Kong society. Funded by the Kwok Yat Wai Charitable Fund, HKGSS systemically collects high-quality data on Hong Kong residents’ attitudes and behaviours across social, economic, political, and cultural domains.

The Partnerships for Life Global Initiative to Prevent Suicide completed its first five years of activity at the end of 2025. Significant progress has been achieved, with new members coming on board to give fresh impetus as it begins its next phase.

香港大學香港賽馬會防止自殺研究中心早前公布，2024年香港自殺率估計為14.1，即每10萬人有14.1人自殺，升至2009年以來高位，且高於全球水平。中心指出，25至39歲男性自殺率由2021年15.2顯著上升至去年23，失業者、有財務困難人士等均有較高風險。

香港大学昨日与林道诺贝尔奖得主大会联合举办“诺贝尔英雄论坛：引领科学与未来”，邀得6名诺贝尔奖得主就多项议题展开对话，包括人工智能（AI）对科研和日常生活的影响，逾800人出席论坛。政务司司长陈国基致辞时指出，今次论坛显示香港决心在全球创新浪潮中发挥作用；港大校长张翔期望与会者能吸收6名学者的经验，推动科研发展和成果转化，以造福全人类。

踏入2026年，回看過去一年，相信市民不會忘記的，是11月大埔宏福苑發生的五級大火。他們現在盼望的是，政府成立的獨立委員會能夠為事件找出真相，還災民公道之餘，更為建造業帶來實質改革，而不是把責任委過於個別人。唯有這樣的結果，才是真正汲取教訓。

鑑於近日火災事故或對公眾造成精神健康影響，香港心理衞生會提醒市民留意自身及身邊人士的情緒反應，並於有需要時盡早尋求專業協助。

Under the auspices of the National Health Commission (NHC), the inaugural ‘Interdisciplinary and Composite Talents in Medicine, Disease Prevention and Control, and Management Training Programme’, organised by the School of Public Health, LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed), concluded successfully after three weeks of intensive training. This initiative was made possible through a generous donation from the Institute of Philanthropy Medical and Health Scholarship-cum-Fellowship for Top Talent in the Mainland.

身心過勞以外，有學者指出，助人的專業人士較常面對「繼發性創傷壓力」，繼而引發「慈悲疲勞」，影響深遠。
疫情為社會帶來衝擊，市民身心疲憊，加上留守長者及學童自殺問題湧現，社工面對人手和資源短缺疲於奔命。針對社工的職業過勞問題，非牟利慈善團體「自在社」推出支援計劃，並委託港大社會工作及社會行政學系展開「如何改善社工職業過勞」的學術研究調查。

香港大學社會工作及社會行政學系副教授黃蔚澄博士（Paul）曾在受訪時表示，每人都會有負面情緒，故自我覺察和排解很重要，身邊人的觀察亦是關鍵。他強調，細心留意生活細節，可及時阻止輕生行為；若情況未有改善，建議尋求專業協助。

近年輕生事件有上升趨勢，香港大學社會工作及社會行政學系副教授黃蔚澄博士（Paul）曾表示，社會不同階層的人皆有自身情緒的觸發點。他指，學童多以家庭、學業壓力為主；成年人多因為工作壓力；而長者多因為身體健康問題，如受長期疾病或身體疼痛問題困擾。

【明報文章】今年施政報告公布前，坊間盛傳政府將重推公屋「租置計劃」，並於施政報告裏解釋措施的具體安排。到了施政報告公布當日，行政長官李家超對租置計劃零着墨，公眾難免諸多猜疑。其後，李家超被問及是否不再推出租置計劃，他的回應是：現時有39個屋邨納入計劃，仍有共3.1萬個租置單位未售出，加上租置屋邨的管理問題仍在研究如何解決，所以「現階段並非是適合作決定的時間」。

為響應行政長官2025年施政報告中提出成立「社會高齡化對策工作組」，民建聯「銀髮經濟發展聯盟」今日（29日）舉行圓桌會議。「聯盟」召集人兼立法會議員李世榮表示，會議上各嘉賓都針對高齡化社會帶來的挑戰與機遇，以及銀髮經濟的發展路徑進行交流和討論。是次會議出席者包括商務及經濟發展局副局長陳百里、香港城市大學人文社科院副院長（科研）、大灣區研究中心（GBA Cluster）主任、公共及國際事務系教授王小虎、香港大學秀圃老年研究中心總監樓瑋群教授，以及嶺南大學亞太老年學研究中心總監陳澤群教授。

A local university professor on Wednesday said those who lend money need to bear their share of responsibility when it comes to suicide due to financial pressures.

The call came as the city marked World Suicide Prevention Day and as the University of Hong Kong’s Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention presented its latest round of local suicide data.

The centre’s director, Professor Paul Yip, said creditors need to consider whether their loans would cause debtors stress that might result in suicide.

He added that men between the age of 24 and 39 are more vulnerable and require more attention.

“Their help-seeking behaviour is not very good… when they experience problems I think they just do not know where they can turn for help.”

He urged everyone to think of the effect suicide can leave on one’s loved ones, including families.

Data from the centre also showed that the suicide rate for those under the age 15 had decreased by 50 percent.

However, it also showed that overall suicide rates in Hong Kong have been rising since 2021, higher than the international average.

Yip says it is important for more people to be aware of their mental health and understand that it is not shameful to seek help.

He added that many would benefit from a simple three-hour session on how to talk to those struggling, especially since most first turn to their loved ones for help instead of professionals.

“The important thing is how to create an environment in which the people feel happy and hopeful.

“You are not alone, it is okay to not be okay and do come and seek help.”

September 10 marks World Suicide Prevention Day, a vital global call to action that unites communities worldwide – including individuals, organisations and those with lived experience – to initiate crucial conversations and reaffirm our collective role in preventing suicide.

香港大學防止自殺研究中心今日（10日）聯同生命熱線公布本港最新自殺數據，指去年香港自殺率為14.1，超出國際水平，亦較2023年的13.5上升0.6。而25至39歲男性自殺率增幅尤為明顯，按年急升5.1至23，3專家形容值得重點關注。

每年的9月10日是世界防止自殺日，而開學月亦是學童情緒陷入困擾的「高危時期」，值得多加關注。香港大學社會工作及社會行政學系副教授兼認可註冊臨床心理學家黃蔚澄長年進行自殺議題的研究，去年他與香港撒瑪利亞防止自殺會合作，展開全港首個針對自殺者遺屬在遇事逾十年後、探討其心路歷程變化的深度訪談研究，發現他們過去不但承受哀傷、內疚、自責、迷茫等複雜情緒，社會對自殺「污名化」亦為他們帶來莫大壓力。哪怕年月過去，這仍是他們心中永不磨滅的傷口，有人談及仍會淚流不止，不過亦有人能展現出「創傷後成長」的情況。黃蔚澄與研究團隊成員近日接受香港文匯報專訪時指，早前已將十名遺屬的心路歷程結集成《遙遠的他》一書，期望是次研究讓大眾了解自殺對遺屬帶來的深遠影響，也讓更多自殺者的親友知道，社會有一批有心人與同路人，願意關心、聆聽和陪伴。你，並不孤單。

天恩邨/房署/遷出/輕生丨天水圍天恩邨一對患有精神病母子，被指因13年前申請公屋時未有如實申報資產，因此遭房屋署發信要求遷出。母子曾就此作出上訴，並獲青山醫院發出證明書，建議容許二人繼續在單位居住，不過，今年3月上訴委員會最終裁定上訴失敗，涉案母子則先後於今年4月20日及7月31日墮樓亡。
